Last week, members of the Visit Savannah’s staff and board of directors spent three days pitching potential stories about Savannah and Tybee Island to editors of major publications with offices in New York City.
Visit Savannah president Joe Marinelli, vice president of communications and marketing Jeremy Harvey, director of public relations Erica Backus and communications coordinator Summer Bozeman traveled to New York for meetings with editors at Martha Stewart Living, Martha Stewart Weddings, Parents, T: The New York Times Style Magazine, Departures, Saveur, Bloomberg Pursuits, WORTH, WSJ Magazine, Hearst Digital and Shape. With each publication, they tailored their pitch to meet the publication’s needs and asked questions of the editors about their interests in stories for 2017.
The week began with the staff attending the Condé Nast “The Best of the Best” party where Savannah was recognized for moving up in its ranking to number five in 2016. Other recognized partners included regional neighbors Hilton Head Island and Charleston, SC.
On Thursday evening, Visit Savannah representatives hosted a reception and art display featuring the work of three Savannah artists: Cedric Smith, Betsy Cain and Marcus Kenney. The event, hosted in conjunction with Savannah Economic Development Authority and Telfair Museums took place at the National Arts Club on Gramercy Park, and was attended by invited members of the media and other New York artists and entrepreneurs. The evening provided the perfect opportunity to tell the story of Savannah while showcasing its famous brand of hospitality and unique cultural offerings.
