GDOT has released an updated schedule relative to the planned 20 day Chatham Parkway Bridge closure over I-16. Weather permitting, complete closure is scheduled to start at 9p.m., Friday, June 20 continuing for approximately 20 days.
Purpose of Closure: The traffic impacts are necessary to complete the work required for the raising of the existing Chatham Parkway bridge over I-16.
Traffic Impacts:
Please note, during this bridge closure, all ramps on and off I-16 will remain open, except as noted below. (See Map 1 – Detour). During the 20 day, complete bridge closure period the traffic will be impacted as follows:
I-16 eastbound (EB) off-ramp traffic will only be able to turn south onto Chatham Parkway. Northbound Chatham Parkway traffic approaching I-16 will only be able to turn right onto I-16 EB. I-16 westbound (WB) off-ramp traffic will only be able to turn north onto Chatham Parkway and the I-16 WB off-ramp will be closed to traffic when I-16 WB is closed at Chatham Parkway. Southbound Chatham Parkway traffic approaching I-16 will only be able to turn right onto I-16 WB.
Four night I-16 closure period the traffic will be impacted as follows:
From 9 p.m., Friday, June 20 through 9 a.m., Saturday, June 21:
I-16 EB will be closed at Chatham Parkway (see Map 2 – Detour)
I-16 WB will be closed at Chatham Parkway (see Map 3 – Detour)
From 10 p.m., Saturday, June 21 through 5 a.m., Sunday, June 22:
I-16 EB will be closed at Chatham Parkway (see Map 2 – Detour)
I-16 WB will be closed at Chatham Parkway (see Map 3 – Detour)
From 10 p.m., Sunday, June 22 through 5 a.m., Monday, June 23:
I-16 WB will be closed at Chatham Parkway (see Map 3 – Detour)
From 9 p.m., Monday, June 23 through 3 a.m., Tuesday, June 24:
I-16 EB will be closed at Chatham Parkway (see Map 2 – Detour)
I-16 WB will be closed at Chatham Parkway (see Map 3 – Detour)
Upon the reopening of the roadway, the Chatham Parkway bridge over I-16 will open its four lanes, with two lanes dedicated to each direction. Please be aware that lane closures will primarily take place during the nighttime hours as essential work continues. This road work is expected to last several weeks following the complete closure. Your patience and understanding during this period are greatly appreciated, as we work to enhance our roadways for everyone’s benefit. Not all navigation applications may reflect the detour at the time of the closure and motorists are advised to follow the detour signage and posted speed limits.
