Convention Center Achieves GBAC STAR™ Facility Accreditation for Commitment to Infection Prevention

The Savannah Convention Center announced today the facility has achieved the GBAC STAR™ facility accreditation from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), a Division of ISSA, and the leading trade association for the cleaning industry. The GBAC STAR™ program helps commercial and public facilities of all sizes establish and carry out an organized approach to cleaning, disinfection, and infection prevention.

“We are extremely proud to receive this important accreditation for our facility,” said Sherri Spinks, General Manager for Savannah Convention Center. “Our staff, along with our Board of Directors, is committed to providing a clean and safe venue for meeting and event planners, attendees, as well as our staff members. Together, we are committed to providing the highest cleaning and disinfection protocols for our facility.”

“We commend the Savannah Convention Center team for being early-adopters in our industry to take this important step, not only for their staff but also for our customers. This is just one more reason why, along with everything else that our beautiful city has to offer, meeting planning professionals must consider Savannah for their upcoming programs,” said Joseph Marinelli, President, President of Visit Savannah.

The performance based GBAC STAR™ program enables facilities to create and maintain an effective cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention program. To achieve GBAC STAR™ accreditation, facilities must demonstrate compliance with the program’s 20 elements, ranging from standard operating procedures and risk assessment strategies to personal protective equipment and emergency preparedness and response measures.
