Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) Referendum will be on the 2022 General Election Ballot

The Chatham County Commission voted unanimously to allow registered Chatham County voters the opportunity to weigh in on a TSPLOST referendum that would add a penny to the current sales tax to fund specific transportation projects proposed by the county and all 8 municipalities within Chatham County. The five year TSPLOST is expected to generate $420 million to fund the numerous TSPLOST projects. The purpose of TSPLOST is to serve as a revenue source for the funding of transportation-related projects such as roadwork, sidewalks, bike trails, bridges, public transportaion throughtout Chatham County. These transportation projects would otherwise be paid for with General Fund and property tax revenues.

The Savannah Chamber’s ballott question committee, Citizens for Progress, will run an education campaing designed to help inform the residents of Chatham County on the importance of passing the TSPLOST referendum.
