The Chamber and Make-a-Wish Partner to Make a Dream Come True

Last Wednesday, Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated 10-year-old Massachusetts resident Mark Lane on becoming a Savannah Banana player for a day. Thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and members of the Savannah Bananas team, the Chamber had the heartwarming opportunity to make a special dreamer’s dream come true.

Mark is a resilient kid battling a rare neurological seizure disorder. Always an ardent fan of baseball, Mark discovered the Savannah Bananas through their viral videos and expressed his wish to the Make-A-Wish Foundation to experience a day as a Savannah Bananas player.

“One of the things that makes this community so special is our ability to pull together and support good causes,” said Bert Brantley, President & CEO of the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce. “Our members went all out to make the Lane family feel special during their visit to Savannah.”

Community members held cheerful decorations and signs as Mark proudly donned his personalized Bananas jersey with his beloved nickname “Swaggy” displayed on the back. The Savannah Bananas team members warmly welcomed their newest teammate as he happily signed autographs for his new fan base! The special collaboration between the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce and the Make-A-Wish Foundation is a moving testament to the transformative outcomes achieved through united efforts in supporting the dreams of our community’s youth. The Chamber of Commerce aims to bring continued joy and positive change to our community.

Our friends at River Street Sweets donated an enormous basket of candy that the Lane children said was the highlight of their trip. Flirt With Dessert on Wilmington Island came through with … what else … banana-flavored cupcakes! And Mermaid Cottages on Tybee provided the perfect place for the family to stay and enjoy their visit.

We thank the team at Make-A-Wish Foundation, all the incredible Savannah Bananas players, Chamber staff, and Community supporters who gathered to make this dream a reality.
