Savannah Hosts Georgia Senate Study Committee on Expanding Georgia’s Workforce

The Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce joined with a number of partner organizations to host the Georgia Senate Study Committee on Expanding Georgia’s Workforce at SEDA’s Board Room last week. Five State Senators along with other corporate and government representatives were appointed to the committee earlier this year and Savannah was chosen as the first meeting location. The members heard the honest truth from our region – we are growing and expanding our workforce is top of mind for our business community.

The Committee heard from some of the area’s top employers – Gulfstream, Georgia Ports, Daniel Defense, and the Georgia Restaurant Association. They also discussed non-traditional workforce development – targeted groups such as those exiting military service, military spouses, developmentally disabled, and those reentering society after incarceration. The Committee has three more meetings scheduled during the remainder of 2023 with the goal of having recommendations and legislation drafted for the 2024 session.
