Savannah’s Visitor Economy Demonstrates Stability and Resilience in 2025

Savannah’s visitor economy remained resilient in 2025, delivering strong economic impact and continued benefits for residents, businesses, and the broader community, according to the Tourism Impact Study by Tourism Economics (an Oxford Economics company). An estimated 12.9 million visitors traveled to the Savannah area in 2025, generating approximately $4.1 billion in visitor spending, reflecting stable performance despite broader economic headwinds.

The tourism industry remains a cornerstone of the local economy. The visitor economy supported an estimated 27,680 direct jobs across Chatham County, underscoring its role as a key driver of employment. Visitor-supported employment is deeply embedded across multiple industries, including nearly all lodging jobs, 43% of food and beverage employment, and 38% of recreation jobs. Beyond these direct roles, visitor spending generates broader economic activity, supporting an additional 8,072 indirect jobs through supply-chain demand and 5,028 induced jobs as tourism-supported wages are spent locally. In total, the visitor economy supported approximately 40,780 jobs, reinforcing its critical role in Savannah’s overall economy.

Beyond employment, the visitor economy delivers meaningful benefits to all residents. In 2025, visitors to Savannah/Chatham County generated approximately $506 million in state and local tax revenue, helping fund essential public services and infrastructure. Without this contribution, each Savannah household would need to pay an additional $4,199 annually in taxes to maintain current service levels—an increase from $4,170 in 2024.

While Savannah’s visitor economy remained stable in 2025, performance reflects a broader normalization following the record-setting growth seen in the immediate post-pandemic years. “The findings reinforce tourism’s critical role in supporting Savannah’s economy and quality of life,” said Joseph Marinelli, president of Visit Savannah. “Visitors contribute directly to local businesses across lodging, restaurants, retail, transportation, and attractions, while also helping to sustain jobs and generate tax revenue that benefits residents.”

Looking Ahead

While national economic conditions and increased lodging supply continue to create a more competitive landscape, Savannah’s tourism industry remains well-positioned due to its strong brand appeal, diverse visitor experiences, and year-round demand. Visit Savannah will continue working with local partners to sustain visitation and ensure tourism remains a positive force for the community.
