More than 60 Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce members gathered Tuesday at Savannah Technical College to learn how their businesses can tap into the talent pools of military spouses and those transitioning from military service into the civilian workforce in the Savannah region.
Hosted by the Chamber’s Industry Council in partnership with the Savannah Economic Development Authority (SEDA) and RISE, the luncheon brought together local employers and national and regional workforce experts to explore strategies for recruiting, hiring, and retaining transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses.
Through two panel discussions, attendees were introduced to valuable hiring resources, including Hiring Our Heroes, the Military Spouse Employment Partnership, Heroes MAKE America, the Georgia VECTR Center, VET² and the Transition Assistance Program.
Panelists shared practical advice on translating military experience into civilian job opportunities, helping employers better understand the skills veterans bring to the workplace and creating supportive environments for military-connected employees and their families.
The luncheon reinforced the important role that Savannah’s military community plays in strengthening the region’s workforce and encouraged local businesses to take advantage of programs and resources that connect qualified military talent with meaningful civilian careers.
“Our Chamber is especially thankful to VyStar Credit Union for sponsoring Tuesday’s luncheon and for its ongoing commitment to supporting military service members, veterans, and their families,” Chamber President & CEO Bert Brantley said. “VyStar’s dedication to the military community is core to its mission, and helps families who serve our country and supports their successful transition to civilian life.”
