Leadership Savannah Explores Manufacturing in the Air and on the Ground

Leadership Savannah’s Manufacturing Day took flight as participants were immersed in the dynamic world of aviation manufacturing. The day began with exclusive behind-the-scenes tours at Gulfstream Aerospace, Rolls-Royce, and G-Force Aerospace Technologies, where class members got a firsthand look at how Savannah continues to lead the way in high-tech, high-skill manufacturing. From state-of-the-art aircraft design to precision engine components, the group gained a deeper appreciation for the innovation and talent fueling our region’s aerospace sector.

Over lunch, the program zoomed out for a statewide perspective. Justin Haight of the Metro Atlanta Chamber delivered an insightful presentation on Georgia’s workforce trends, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities facing employers across the state. His data-driven talk gave the class valuable context for understanding how Savannah’s industries fit into the broader economic picture—and how we must adapt to compete and grow.

To round out the day, the class touched down in Savannah’s creative economy. A visit to Satchel’s retail store on Liberty Street and its production studio at Port City Sewing Factory showcased a different kind of manufacturing—one rooted in craftsmanship, entrepreneurship, and local pride. It was a fitting close to a day that celebrated not just what we build in Savannah, but who we are when we build it.
