Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Governmental Affairs Jared W. Downs was officially sworn in last month by Gov. Brian P. Kemp as the Fort Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield citizen member of the Georgia Joint Defense Commission.
Jared was joined for the special occasion by his wife, Kathrine, their two daughters, and Georgia First Lady Marty Kemp.
The commission advises the governor and Georgia General Assembly on military and defense issues, including the future of Georgia’s military installations, defense research, military families, and veterans. It also works to strengthen relationships between military bases and their surrounding communities.
Jared’s appointment ensures the Savannah region has a voice in statewide discussions affecting Fort Stewart, Hunter Army Airfield, and the thousands of military personnel, veterans, and families who contribute to our local economy.
Congratulations, Jared, on this well-deserved appointment and your continued service to Georgia’s military and business communities!
