Plans to expand a key stretch of Interstate 95 are moving forward, with transportation officials seeking public input as the project’s design and environmental review process continues.
The proposed project would add one additional lane in each direction along I-95 by converting the existing outside shoulders into travel lanes and constructing new shoulders within the current right-of-way. The improvements are intended to increase capacity and help meet the region’s growing transportation demands.
During construction, short-term detours on certain on- and off-ramps may be required, though planners say they will make efforts to minimize disruptions and coordinate closely with local agencies—particularly to ensure hurricane evacuation routes remain functional.
Project design is being developed concurrently with the required environmental review process, which evaluates potential social, economic, and environmental impacts in accordance with federal and state regulations.
Community members and stakeholders are encouraged to participate in a Virtual Public Information Open House, available now through March 27, 2026, where project details, maps, and additional information can be reviewed online. The public may also submit comments during the open comment period.
All feedback will be reviewed by the project team, and responses will be posted following the close of the comment window. Outreach efforts, including public notices and roadway message boards, are also underway to raise awareness and encourage participation.
