Chamber and Bookworms United™ Engage Coastal Middle Students

Chamber Member Services Coordinator Claudette Schomburg recently joined Bookworms United™, a non-profit ed-tech company, at Coastal Middle School’s Literacy Night, part of the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System’s districtwide effort to boost literacy. Together, they hosted an interactive booth where students and parents used imagination and ChatGPT to create humorous short stories and AI-generated artwork.

Bookworms United™ CEO Vern Tremble also led a focus group with members of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). In this organization, Claudette once served on the state board of directors. More than 25 students learned about product development, building a minimum viable product (MVP), and provided feedback on literacy technologies being developed for modern learners.

Bookworms United™ has previously partnered with local middle schools on the Level Up Reading Challenge and launched the AI Academy, which teaches students about generative AI and safety. The organization continues its mission to close the literacy gap through creativity, innovation, and community partnerships.
