Army and NIKE Team Up for 2023’s Army-Navy Uniform to Honor Soldiers of the 3rd Infantry Division

The U.S. Military Academy’s football team is set to don special “Rock of the Marne” uniforms to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 3rd Infantry Division’s involvement in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The announcement coincided with the 106th birthday of the 3rd Infantry Division. In collaboration with Nike, this marks the eighth season that the Army and the USMA history department have worked together on a special uniform for the annual rivalry game. The distinctive uniforms feature a tan desert motif and prominently showcase the division’s mascot, “Rocky the Bulldog,” on the helmet.

Activated on November 21, 1917, at Camp Greene, North Carolina, the 3rd Infantry Division earned the esteemed designation “Rock of the Marne” near Chateau-Thierry on July 15, 1918. After the division relocated to Fort Stewart, Georgia, in 1996, the 3rd Infantry Division joined the XVIII Airborne Corps and participated in numerous peacekeeping operations in Kuwait, Egypt, Bosnia, Croatia, and Kosovo. After the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, the division’s soldiers deployed multiple times to Iraq and Afghanistan, demonstrating their readiness to answer our nation’s call.

The Army-Navy game is scheduled for Saturday, December 9, at 3 p.m. and will take place in the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
