Air Dominance Center’s New Hangar Opens After Regionwide Lobbying Effort to Sustain Funding

Last week, Savannah Area Chamber joined city and county officials in celebrating a grand opening of a new hangar at Savannah’s Combat Readiness Training Center / Air Dominance Center. Georgia’s Adjutant General Thomas Carden was also present at this event. When the CRTC was threatened with loss of funding in the federal budget, the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce joined a host of elected, business, and civic leaders from the region to fight to restore the funding. That effort was successful, as General Carden noted at the ceremony.

“When I get into a knife fight, I want the Savannah Area Chamber on my side,” Carden told the crowd assembled to recognize the completion of the construction. Lt. Colonel Stephen “Tracker” Thomas explained that our nation’s best warfighters choose to come to Savannah for training, and this new hangar includes training space that will ensure our brave pilots continue to be the best in the world.

U.S. Representative Buddy Carter, Savannah Mayor Van Johnson, Chatham County Commission Chair Chester Ellis, Garden City Mayor Bruce Campbell, and Savannah City Alderman Nick Palumbo were among the dignitaries that attended the event to show our entire community’s support for this valuable resource.
