A Win for Progress: SPLOST Renewal Ensures Stronger, Safer Communities

Chatham County voters have spoken, approving the continuation of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) with 61% of the vote. This outcome represents a major victory for our community, ensuring continued investment in the essential projects that keep Savannah and Chatham County strong, safe, and vibrant.

The renewed one-cent sales tax will generate approximately $700 million over the next six years to fund capital improvements across the county, including roads, drainage, parks, public safety facilities, and infrastructure upgrades that benefit both residents and visitors alike.

Importantly, visitors to our community will contribute more than 40% of the revenue for these projects—helping keep property taxes low and reducing the burden on local homeowners while still delivering the infrastructure improvements our community needs to thrive.

This election cycle reflected a wave of energy and engagement across the state and nation, and here in Chatham County, we made sure our message—and our turnout—rode that wave.

The Savannah Area Chamber extends a heartfelt thank you to our members, partners, and community advocates whose efforts helped make this victory possible. Your commitment and advocacy have ensured that visitors continue to contribute to the funding of these critical community improvements, thereby reducing the burden on local taxpayers and driving progress for everyone who calls Chatham County home.
