About
The Luba Lowry Art Gallery, located in the heart of Savannah's City Marketsince 2010, is where visual artist Luba Lowry brings Savannah's beauty and history to life through her distinctive blend of paint and prose.Born and raised in a remote Siberian outpost once used by Tsar Nicholas I as a place of exile for the novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky, Luba came of age studying painting under rigorous Russian mentorship during a time of upheaval. In her late teens, she journeyed from Central Asia to Central Europe, continued through the Middle East, and ultimately found opportunity'and, in 2005, secured citizenship'in the United States.
That artistic journey soon led her to Savannah. Awarded a Presidential Scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in 2006, Luba studied fashion while refining her painterly craft. In the process, she fell deeply and permanently in love with the city's singular beauty. Today, Luba is often found outdoors painting en plein air in the very places where Savannah's light, history, and daily life converge.
In late 2025, she released her Savannah-focused coffee-table book, Postcards from Savannah'the Art of Luba Lowry, a visually rich and deeply personal love letter to one of the most enchanting cities in the American South. This 208-page volume features more than 200 original oil paintings, including 160 postcard-sized works painted directly on location, each paired with an insightful narrative reflection. It also features a lyrical essay accompanying three dozen larger studio works, exploring Savannah's breathtaking, complex, and often haunting 300-year story.
More than an art book, Postcards from Savannah is an immersive journey through cobblestone streets, Spanish-moss-draped oaks, storied squares, historic mansions, haunted graveyards, and the ever-present river. Together with an expansive body of work extending well beyond Savannah, the Luba Lowry Art Gallery invites visitors to encounter Savannah's soul'at once elegant and haunted, alluring and unresolved'through the eyes of one of its most accomplished and devoted contemporary artists.
