2012 State Legislative Agenda
- Support the Governor’s funding request for the Savannah Harbor Expansion Project.
- Support efforts to make Georgia more competitive in economic development. The Chamber is supportive of the Competitiveness Initiative and looks forward to reviewing its results over the coming weeks and forthcoming legislation.
- Support an increase in statewide marketing funds to support Georgia’s tourism industry.
- Support legislation that would abolish all municipal and county inventory taxes.
- Support abolishing sales taxes on energy for manufacturing facilities.
- Health Care:
- Oppose reductions in Medicaid reimbursement rates for healthcare providers.
- Support sales tax exemption for non- profit hospitals as Georgia’s tax structure is reviewed throughout the Session.
- Support a dedicated source of funding for a trauma center network.
- Support a measure that would require all state residents receiving unemployment benefits to pass a drug test before the Department of Labor issues any benefits.
- Support fully funding the statewide pre-kindergarten program.
- Support Herty Advanced Materials Development Center’s request for $1.3 million for needed upgrades/repairs to water and sewer/electrical systems.
- Support legislative initiatives to strengthen the state’s metals theft laws.
