On Thursday, January 31, a record crowd was set at the Chamber’s annual visit to Atlanta to lobby our State elected leaders and local delegation. Our elected leaders highlighted their intent to support many items on the Chamber’s Legislative Agenda including harbor deepening and healthcare/trauma funding. Governor Sonny Perdue, Lt. Governor Casey Cagle and others from State leadership gave good reports to Chamber members during meetings held at the Capitol prior to the reception. Once business was completed, more than 1,000 people stopped by our annual Savannah Chatham Day Seafood Fest held at the Depot. This event continues to draw people from all over Georgia and has been routinely recognized as the best annual event of the General Assembly.

More than 550 attendees gathered on Wednesday, January 16 at the 33rd Annual Economic Outlook Luncheon at The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa, sponsored by Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation. National and state forecasts were delivered by Dr. Robert T. Sumichrast, Dean of the Terry College of Business, University of Georgia, which the Chamber collaborated with to put on the luncheon. The 2008 Forecast and Economic Trends brochure was presented by SunTrust Bank.

BB&T and Cellular Sales, this year’s sponsors, welcomed more than 300 people to the Chamber’s 10th Annual Hockey Business Connection on Thursday, January 17 at the Savannah Civic Center. This was the Chamber’s first business connection of the year and was a networking success.

Chamber members and member guests enjoyed complimentary beverages and delicious appetizers from Outback Steakhouse Downtown. The participating collegiate teams in the Memorial Health Hockey Classic were Florida State, Georgia Tech, University of Florida and the University of Georgia.
