A Robust Economy
Bolstered by its tourism industry, Savannah's economy is in good health and flexing its muscles. With the city's charm, beauty and historical significance as a foundation, the hospitality sector has blossomed since the mid-1990s.
But tourism is only a part of an array of economic factors that keep Savannah business booming.
The leisure and hospitality, educational and health services, retail trade and manufacturing sectors are the engines that drive the economy by accounting for almost 71 percent of the employment in Savannah.
The Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area – which consists of Chatham, Bryan and Effingham counties – added 22,500 jobs from 1990 to 2000, and in the last five years grew by another 14,700 jobs.
Fostering economic growth are the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce and the Savannah Economic Development Authority (SEDA).
