Memorial Health is a two-state health-care organization serving a 35-county area in southeast Georgia and southern South Carolina. The system includes its flagship, Memorial Health University Medical Center, a 530-bed tertiary medical center; CareOne, its two-state home care division; Memorial Health University Physicians group practice; a major medical education program; business and industry services; and NurseOne, a 24-hour call center.
Memorial Health is the area's largest private employer, having more than 5,000 employees. As southeast Georgia's only teaching and research hospital, the Medical Center is affiliated with Mercer University School of Medicine.
Memorial Health's specialty programs include the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute, a regional referral center for cancer care; the George and Marie Backus Children's Hospital, the region's only pediatric intensive care facility; The Rehabilitation Institute, one of only six located in Georgia; LifeStarOne, the area's only emergency helicopter ambulance unit; and Trauma Center One, the only Level I trauma center in southeast Georgia and only one of four Level I trauma centers in the state.
In addition, Memorial Health is home to the Georgia Ear Institute, the Georgia Eye Institute, the Heart and Vascular Institute and the Women's Health Institute.
In 2007, Memorial Health opened the William and Iffath Hoskins Center for Biomedical Research, a cancer research and educational facility that focuses on research in molecular genetics and the biology of cancer.
St. Joseph's/Candler Health System
The region's only faith-based, not-for-profit health system, St. Joseph's/Candler offers advanced care in the areas of imaging, gastroenterology, pulmonary, sports medicine, geriatrics, wellness services, diabetes treatment and management, outpatient surgical services, and emergency care, in addition to the specific signatures services offered at each of its two hospitals. The system has a regional network of primary care physician practices and home-health services, and maintains CareCall – a telephone health information and community resource hotline staffed by specially trained registered nurses that makes health-care information available to residents of the area at no cost.
St. Joseph's/Candler has partnership arrangements with other regional hospitals and providers, including Emory University HealthCare, Mayo Clinic-Jacksonville, Neumors Children's Hospital and the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute.

Founded in 1875 when the Sisters of Mercy took over operation of the Forest City Marine Hospital in what is now the Historic District, St. Joseph's is now located on Savannah's southside and is home to the Heart Hospital, the Institute for Advanced Bone and Joint Surgery and the Institute of Neurosciences.

Candler Hospital is Georgia's first hospital and the second-oldest continuously operating hospital in the United States. Located in Midtown and affiliated with the Methodist Church, Candler offers primary care, outpatient services and women's and children's services. Candler is home to the Mary Telfair Women's Hospital, which offers advanced obstetrical, gynecological, education and outpatient services for women. The Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer and Research Pavilion, which opened in late 2005, is affiliated with the NCI-designated Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute.

Georgia Regional is part of a series of mental health hospitals intended to decentralize mental health services in the state and bring patients treatment as close as possible to their homes. This hospital provides psychiatric care to mentally ill adults and emotionally disturbed children from throughout southeast Georgia. The hospital's psychiatric emergency receiving facility is open 24 hours a day.

Coastal Harbor is a private hospital providing psychiatric treatment for children and adolescents with a range of behavioral health problems. An Acute Services Unit offers intensive short-term stabilization of acute psychiatric symptoms for those ages 4 to 17.
The Residential Treatment Program offers long-term residential treatment for children and adolescents 7 to 17. Along with regular residential services, sex offender and developmentally delayed programming is offered in specialty units. Referrals to either program can be made by contacting the Admissions Department.
Coastal Harbor is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and is owned by Universal Health Services.

As it has since opening in 1969, Effingham Hospital continues to provide citizens with quality, affordable health care. Accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, the facility is ranked among the nation's top 2 percent of accredited organizations.
The hospital provides a wide range of outpatient services including general, laparoscopic and same-day surgery; imaging and diagnostics; and physical, occupational, speech and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. The hospital also maintains continuous physician and RN coverage in the Emergency Department and was the nation's first chest pain center in a rural location.
Effingham Hospital also hosts the Physicians Center, where area specialists see local patients. The MedCare center at 100 Goshen Road in Rincon is open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The hospital also has an extended care center, a 105-bed, resident long-term facility.
