2007-2008 Federal Legislative Agenda
- As the Army adds troops and assets to its in-strength posture, the Chamber supports positioning these additions at Ft. Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield.
- Support full and permanent repeal of the death/estate tax.
- Support S.406 and H.R. 734, The Transit System Flexibility Protection Act, which addresses the problem of eroding federal operating assistance for small transit systems.
- Support a modest increase in the current fuel tax to fund FAA modernization while implementing no user fees under the FAA Reauthorization Bill.
- As Congress takes up the reauthorization of NCLB, the Chamber supports improving this legislation that could include the provisions contained in HR 648, The No Child Left Behind Improvements Act.
Savannah/Chatham County Funding Requests:
- Support federally authorized funds for Tybee Island’s beach renourishment project.
- Support federal funding for the dormitory project for the Air National Guard’s Combat Readiness Training Center/165th Airlift Wing in Savannah.
- Support $700,000 for Savannah Harbor expansion investigation and $15.6 million for continued Savannah Harbor operations and maintenance.
- Support federal funding for new technology and equipment for the Heart Hospital at St. Joseph’s/Candler Health System.
- Support federal funding for the Cyber Security Education and Training Center at Armstrong Atlantic State University.
- Support $200,000 contained in the House’s Labor HHS Appropriations Bill which will fund Savannah’s Safety Net Program that allows health care access to uninsured patients.
- Support DOD $2 million appropriation for the Obesity and Cancer Research Partnership between Walter Reed Army Hospital and Memorial Health.
- Support providing adequate federal funding for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
- Support $250,000 appropriation for Bethesda Home for Boys.
- Support adding an authorized STARBASE program for Chatham County as well as the necessary funding to successfully start the program.
