September 1998 Bill joined the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce and Visit Savannah as President and CEO. The Savannah Chamber, with its 2,100 members also houses Visit Savannah, Leadership Savannah, The Savannah Area Manufacturers, sports, Small Business, Tybee, Southside, Governmental Affairs, CEO, Military Affairs, Drug Free workplace, Relocation Marketing, Workforce (etc) Councils. Over the five year period membership has grown 27% and event attendance has more than doubled. The Savannah Area Chamber has grown its political activity during his tenure by creating a Political Action Committee, leading a SPLOST campaign with an unprecedented 85% win and mediated with the City and County to merge police departments. The Chamber lead the effort to secure many community sporting events, including; The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf PGA Champion’s Tour event, American Power Boat Assoc. Ocean Race, ESPN Boxing, an annual Ice Hockey tournament with UGA, GA Tech, FLA & FLA State...etc. The Chamber also owns and operates Visit Savannah which has seen tourism growth of 5 to 11%, annually.
Bill began his Chamber career as Marketing Manager for the Greater Detroit Michigan Chamber of Commerce.
Bill joined the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce in 1988 as Senior Vice President for Economic Expansion where his duties included economic development marketing and prospect servicing, international trade and marketing, Research, Public Information, oversight of the Georgia Minority Development Council (GMSDC), and the South Fulton County Chamber of Commerce. The Metro Atlanta Chamber grew the FORWARD ATLANTA marketing budget from a $1.2 million/yr. to $5 million/yr. program, which at that time was the largest in the United States.
Educationally, Bill completed an undergraduate degree in Business Administration (Personnel) at the University of Central Florida in 1981. In 1983, Bill received Master’s degrees from UCF in Marketing and Finance.
