The National Sales Manager’s primary responsibility is to reach both individual and team room night quotas while developing enough tentative business to support future quotas.  


Duties and Responsibilities
1.   Basic Functions
  • Reach and exceed individual annual room night quota and other goals established to reach the organizations overall objectives. This position will also assist the team in reaching its overall quotas while developing enough tentative business opportunities to ensure that future individual and team quotas can be reached.
  • Works within established budget guidelines.
  • Solicits business opportunities in a pro-active manner through telephone solicitation, personal sales calls and direct mail to nurture interest and to facilitate the booking process for larger meetings, conventions, and expositions.  (The definition of large and citywide meetings may vary with changing market conditions and organizational expectations)
  • Develops and executes successful sales trips, site inspections, familiarization trips and client events.
  • Assist meeting planners with referrals to Destination Service Manager or other chamber member service providers.
  • Prospects for new business utilizing databases, directories and industry tools.
  • Makes Sales trips, attends conferences, tradeshows, sales missions and networking meetings to promote convention business which can also include pre-planning, target marketing, pre/post mailers, industry event registrations and arrangements for tradeshows.
  • Coordinates and conducts VIP site inspections for visiting organizations showcasing hotels, facilities, attractions and community aspects of interest to the visiting delegate.
  • Responds in a timely manner to all inquiries for future business and encourage future convention business from community contacts.
  • Maintain professional attire, image and demeanor at all times.
2.   Planning
  • Identifies need periods and creates a positive impact on those time frames.
  • Identifies through research those organizations whose programs best fulfill the expectations of the convention center and the hotels within the community.
  • Is able to manage their time in an environment where priorities change quickly.
  • Has the ability to develop objectives, strategies and tactic that lead to successful business development.
  • Plans, directs, and promotes the destination through the DMO’s participation in national and regional industry events, tradeshows and conferences.
3.   Networking/Communications
  • Develops cooperative opportunities in which bureau members are encouraged to  participate (e.g., tradeshows, client events, familiarization trips and sales missions)
  • Coordinates with communications/public relations department the development of direct mail, tradeshow collateral and video for client presentations.   
  • Maintains an awareness of competitor's products, promotions and industry issues that influence sales by establishing a rapport with other divisions within our organization, members and related hospitality professional organizations in the community.
  • Provide members with the necessary information in a lead that will enable them to properly evaluate and correctly bid for conventions meetings or trade show business.
  • Make written, computer generated or personal presentations to board of directors, convention delegates or site selection committees to present the area as a meeting destination.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely (both verbally and in writing) to individual clients, as well as to groups of clients (e.g., Boards of Directors); an excellent listener.
  • Maintains a well informed working knowledge of all hotels, attractions and services, both public and private, available in the area; develops and maintains a close working relationship with personnel from each facility and acts a liaison  between meeting planners and the hospitality community.
  • Represents and promotes to all prospective clients the City of Savannah, Visit Savannah and its members (hotels, convention center, and off-site venues) in a professional, confident manner 
4.   Administrative/Management/Supervisory
  • Maintains accurate and uniform documentation of all sales files.
  • Is able to manage a coordinator in a manner that promotes a positive work environment.
  • Maintains an up to date data base of customers and industry contacts that will help us attain our team quota.
  • Participate in creating a budget and marketing plan for the Group Sales Division.
5.     Customer Service
  • Collects customer RFP’s and develops leads that are then sent to hotel partners and service provider. Collects that information from our partners and develops a bid book that is sent to the customer with the pertinent destination information needed to make a well informed decision.
  • Coordinates and conducts VIP site inspections for visiting organizations showcasing hotels, facilities, attractions and community aspects of interest to the visiting delegate.
6.     Organizational Commitment
  • Maintain a cohesive working relationship with all other personnel to successfully accomplish Visit Savannah and Savannah Chamber of Commerce goals.
  • Participates in ongoing high quality improvement/client satisfaction efforts. 
  • Demonstrates high standards in service through all interactions with customers and clients.
  • Handle additional responsibilities and projects as assigned.

Education and Experience
Four-year degree from an accredited college or university and
Minimum of five years of hospitality or related sales experience at management level.
Supervisory experience.

  • Excellent communication, management and organizational skills.
